Designs for the MC10000 must be in the JEF format. When you use Janome software to create designs, they are automatically created in that format. But when you download or purchase designs, the JEF format may not be available. In such cases, you must use software to convert the designs from whatever format you have into the JEF format for your MC10000. Not all conversions are perfect, and sometimes the converted design is improperly constructed. That can cause problems, such as the message The design could not be registered when you send the design to the machine. In some cases, the flaws can cause the machine to malfunction. To prevent this sort of trouble, and to give MC10000 owners a way to validate designs before sewing them, we have created the jef Design Repair Utility. Operation is very simple. You open the design to be validated. It reports what the problems are. You click the Fix it! button. The original file is renamed with the file type .err and a proper file is constructed.

Warning! This program assumes that the Memory Craft 10000 is using software version 2.2 or later. If using earlier versions, it may allow designs that are too big to be accepted as good.

The errors detected are as follows:

bulletToo Large
This error cannot be corrected. It means that the design physically is larger than Hoop B.
bulletHoop Size
The hoop size specified in the design is too small. It will be corrected.
bulletFirst Stitch
The first stitch in the design file is not a jump stitch. One will be inserted.
bulletStitch Count
The design exceeds 64,000 stitches. It will be split into multiple files, each smaller than 64,000 stitches. To stitch, simply select each design in sequence. DO NOT attempt to recombine the parts in the Edit screen! This may lock up the machine, and will definitely cause misalignment of parts.

To install this program:

  1. Download it here. Save it to the Desktop.
  2. Double-click the program (fixer.exe). This will launch the installer. When it's finished, you'll have a yellow hard-hat icon on the desktop, labeled jefdru. Double-click it to open the program and follow instructions.

To use the program:

  1. Open the program by double-clicking the yellow hard-hat icon.
  2. Click the Open button to open the design to be checked.
  3. If any problems are found, the appropriate problem(s) will be checked. Click the Fix it button to repair. This will cause the original file to be renamed as type err and a new jef file will be created.

Important Considerations

  1. If you choose the repair option, and the design cannot be repaired, it will appear to disappear. That's because the original, flawed design will be changed to file type .err. You can use Windows Explorer to rename it back to a .jef file, but it still will be flawed.
  2. If you attempt to repair a file with the same name as a previously repaired file, the program will report an error. Delete the .err file from the first repair, and then it will work.
