When I try to use Digitizer I get a "Security Error" message that says "Security Device Not Found (-3)." My security device is plugged in and has been working. What does this mean?

This error indicates that the software cannot "see" the security device on any parallel port in your computer. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Restart the computer. As it is coming back up, enter the system SETUP program. On most computers an on-screen message will tell you how to do this. Often it involves pressing the DEL key or the F2 key. The manual for your computer will tell how to do it, and you should have that manual in hand before you start. The purpose of this is to change the MODE of the parallel port. Find the instructions for doing this in the manual and DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE!!!! Mistakes in this can easily lead to a computer that won't run any more. If your parallel port is Bi-directional or Standard, change it to EPP or ECP. If it's EPP or ECP, change it to bi-directional or standard. It doesn't really matter what it is, just that you change it. Save the changes, and when the system has finished restarting, check Digitizer. If you still get the error, continue.
  2. Download the HASP driver from the downloads page. Yes, it's needed for XP, but it's also the very latest driver. My latest package uninstalls the old driver and installs the new one automatically. On some computers it fixes this problem.
  3. If both of the above fail, you need to verify that the dongle itself is not damaged. Install Digitizer on a different computer and see if it works. If you still get the error, the dongle may have failed. See your dealer to arrange for a replacement.
