How do I format an ATA PC Card?
The process of formatting prepares the card for use in either your computer, or the Memory Craft 10000. Most cards are pre-formatted by the manufacturer and are ready to use when you purchase them. Once in a while, though, the data on the card can get scrambled and it can no longer be used in the sewing machine. The solution to this problem is to format the card. If you have a reader/writer attached to your computer, or are using a laptop, this is done by opening My Computer and right-clicking on the icon for the PC Card. Choose Format. This will open a dialog that will prepare the card for use. Either the full or the quick formatting option will work.

If you have a MicroTech reader/writer, the normal format option will be replaced by their card preparation software. Owners of the SanDisk ImageMate will have a special icon in the System Tray at the bottom right corner of the screen. If you right-click on this icon, and choose the Initialize option, the card will be formatted.

Note that when you use the standard Windows format option from the right-click menu, the version of Windows being used may have an effect on whether the card can me used to update the Memory Craft 10000. Formatting under Windows 2000 or Windows XP will prevent the card from working to update the sewing machine.

If formatting the card in the computer does not resolve problems, you may be able to format it in a digital camera, or other electronic device.

Finally, if your card is working properly and not giving you problems, don't format it!
