I can't send anything to the
MC10000 by USB. I get a "Communication Time-out."
The process of installing the USB drivers for PC
Link to the MC10000 is prone to trouble, and a lot of people find that
they can't get communication to work. Usually the symptom is that the
Send dialog shows USB Disconnected. If you
have previously sent designs to the machine successfully, check to see
if the cable is unplugged. If that's not the problem, follow these
steps.
- Connect the USB cable between the sewing machine and the
computer. Turn on the MC10000. If it already was on, turn it off,
then back on. Close all program windows on the
computer.
- Touch the PC Link button (Computer over sewing
machine) on the MC10000.
- Put the CD-ROM for Customizer 10000, Digitizer 10000,
EasyTransfer or Media Kit 1 in the computer. Any one of these will
work, but you have to have a CD in the computer. (NOT having
the CD-ROM in the computer is how we got into this mess to begin
with!)
- Right click on the My Computer icon, or the word
Computer if using Vista. (For Windows
XP and Vista you may first have to click the Start button to
expose the My Computer entry.) From the pop-up menu,
choose Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab in the Property
Dialog box (Windows 98 or ME) or the Hardware tab and
Device Manager button (Windows 2000 or XP) or
Device Manager in the Task list (Vista).
- Look in the device list for a yellow circle with either a
! or a ? in it. It may be listed in
Unknown Devices or in Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Double click this yellow circle and choose Reinstall Driver
or Update Driver.
- The driver name is Jsmc850. If it appears in the
list of drivers, choose it. If not, browse to the CD-ROM drive
Drivers folder. For Windows 95, 98 and ME use the
Win98 driver. For Windows 2000, XP, and Vista use Win2K.
- Follow the on-screen directions to finish driver installation.
- Try sending to the machine again, but first turn the machine
off, then back on.
If the above steps do not resolve the problem, repeat steps 1
through 5. Then locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers
in the device list. Click the + to the left of the USB
icon. A list all USB devices will open. Locate the one called
USB Root Hub.
 | For Windows Vista, XP, ME and 2000, right click on this and choose
Uninstall. Then right click again and choose Scan
for hardware changes. |
 | For Windows 98 left click on the entry to select it and then
click the Remove button. After confirming the removal,
click the Refresh button. |
This procedure will cause all USB devices to be
rediscovered, beginning with the USB hardware inside the computer. You
must have the appropriate driver disk for each device, and it is
critically important that you read each "New Hardware Found" message
carefully to make sure you have the right CD or disk installed for
that device. For most devices a disk will not be needed, because the
correct driver will already be installed in the computer. The Memory
Craft 10000 will be referred to in these dialogs as the Jsmc850
Device. Drivers for it are on every Janome CD-ROM.
The driver installation process must complete
successfully. If Windows reports that no drivers could be found, you
need to start over with all the above steps, making sure that a Janome
CD-ROM is in the computer. |
